Used when dimensional control, surface finish, and material performance are critical. **Processes:** - **CNC Milling** — Best for prismatic and complex non-rotational geometry. 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis options. Pockets, contours, slots, compound surfaces. Ideal for housings, brackets, fixtures, base plates. - **CNC Turning** — Best for rotational parts with concentricity requirements. OD/ID turning, threads (M3–M64), grooves, shoulder features. Ideal for shafts, bushings, sleeves, fittings. **Tolerances:** - Standard: ±0.05 mm - Precision: up to ±0.01 mm on critical features - Process-specific strategy for tight GD&T features **Materials:** - Aluminium alloys: 6061-T6, 7075-T6, 2024-T3, MIC-6 tooling plate - Steels: mild steel, alloy steel (EN8, EN19/4140), SS304, SS316, 17-4 PH, tool steel - Engineering plastics: Delrin (POM), Nylon, PEEK, Polycarbonate, PTFE - Titanium (Grade 2, Grade 5), Superalloys (Inconel 718, Hastelloy C276), Brass, Copper **Lead times:** Prototype 3–7 days. Standard production 7–15 days. **How to choose milling vs turning:** If the part is primarily rotational, use turning. If it is prismatic or needs multi-face geometry, use milling. Many parts use turning first, milling second for flats, holes, or key geometry. --- ## 3D Printing — Detailed Reference 3D printing builds parts layer by layer from digital models. Partwork supports five processes: **SLA (Stereolithography)** - Laser-cured resin; 25 µm layer height; ±0.1 mm accuracy; Ra 0.2–0.5 µm surface finish - Materials: Standard resin, Clear resin, Tough resin, High temperature resin - Ideal for: Visual prototypes, presentation models, transparent parts, fine geometry - Cost: ₹400–₹1,200 typical; Lead time: 2–7 days **SLS (Selective Laser Sintering)** - Powder-bed nylon; no support structures required; isotropic strength - Materials: PA12, PA11, Glass-filled nylon, TPU flexible - Ideal for: Functional prototypes, assemblies, low-volume end-use parts - Lead time: 4–7 days **MJF (HP Multi Jet Fusion)** - Fast powder fusion; 2× smoother surface than SLS; repeatable production quality - Materials: PA12, PA11, TPU - Ideal for: Production batches, enclosures, fixtures, repeatable functional components - Lead time: 3–5 days **FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)** - Filament extrusion; large build envelope; cost-effective rapid iteration - Materials: PLA, ABS, PETG, Nylon, Polycarbonate; layer heights 50–400 µm - Ideal for: Large prototypes, jigs, fixtures, quick early-stage iterations **DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering)** - Metal additive; 99.5%+ density; complex metal geometries - Materials: Ti-6Al-4V, Inconel 718, SS316L, AlSi10Mg - Ideal for: Aerospace, medical, high-performance metal components **Process selector:** - Use SLA for visual quality and fine detail - Use SLS/MJF for functional nylon parts and production batches - Use FDM for large, low-cost concept prototypes - Use DMLS for high-value metal parts with complex geometry **File formats for 3D printing:** STL, OBJ, 3MF (and STEP for dimensional accuracy) --- ## Sheet Metal Fabrication — Detailed Reference Sheet metal fabrication transforms flat metal sheets into parts through cutting, bending, forming, and joining. Material thickness: 0.5 mm to 25 mm.
